Intake Information
We at TGRR know that turning in your Golden or Golden Mix may be a difficult decision. We are fully committed to making this process as professional as possible and will work diligently at placing your dog with a caring and loving family. We typically have a fairly long waiting list of applicants who have been approved to adopt from us.All have been thoroughly screened to ensure they can provide a safe, healthy and happy environment for your dog.
If you have a Golden Retriever or Mix you would like to place into our program, you may start the process and get more information by submitting the application below or by calling our voice-mail number (336)288-9944 and leaving a message on Line 1. Our Intake Coordinator will return your call as soon as possible. You can also contact the Coordinator by using our Contact Us form.
We will ask for preliminary information when we talk with you on the phone and, if your dog seems like a good candidate for our program, we will set up an appointment to meet you and the dog at the veterinary hospital which cares for our dogs.
At the intake appointment we will ask you to:
- provide a copy of your Golden's vet records, if these are available. If not, please provide us with the veterinarian’s name and address where the dog received care, if this is known.
- complete a form giving us additional information about the Golden and signing the animal over to TGRR for legal purposes
- consider making a donation to TGRR, if financially able, to help defray the costs of vetting your Golden while in our care. Our intake coordinator will discuss this with you. As a non-profit organization, we greatly appreciate any assistance you are able to provide.
All dogs are evaluated for temperament and obvious physical problems before being taken into the program. In most cases the intake appointment takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
While we know there are other options for finding a home for your Golden, TGRR has had a strong system in place since 1990 for providing up-to-date care for your Golden, for fully evaluating our prospective adopters through interviews, vet references and home visits, and for providing follow-up assessment post-adoption to ensure that the Golden and family are well-suited and happy.
We look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for entrusting us with the care of your Golden.
