Adoption Process

So You Want To Adopt

Your New Best Friend

Triad Golden Retriever Rescue will consider adoptive families in North Carolina and surrounding states. On occasion, we place dogs in states farther away.

Our careful matching process considers each dog’s unique history, personality, temperament, energy level, comfort with children and other animals, medical needs, and more. At the same time, we take your family’s lifestyle and needs into consideration when looking for the right fit.

We are very careful about the placements we make. Our goal is to find each dog a loving home where they can thrive and remain a cherished member of the family for the rest of their life.

Before submitting an application, please note:

  1. Adopters must have a structural fence attached to their home.
  2. Adopters must have a history of providing appropriate veterinary care for their pets. We will contact your veterinarian to confirm that current and prior pets have been kept up-to-date on vaccinations and that dogs have received year-round heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
  3. If there are children in the home or children who frequently visit, they must be at least 5 years old.
  4. We do not approve applications where the dog will be left outside, or have free access to the outside, when no one is home or while the household is sleeping.
  5. A $42 non-refundable application fee must be received before we begin processing your application.

If you meet these requirements and are willing to wait for the right match, you are an ideal candidate for Triad Golden Retriever Rescue. As our success rate proves, these precious dogs are well worth the wait.

Our Process

1

Apply

We appreciate you wanting to bring a dog into your home. In order for us to find the right pet for you, we need you to submit an adoption application.

2

Review

We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity.

3

Vet Check

We will contact your veterinarian. You can help move this step along by contacting your veterinarian’s office and giving them permission to speak with the TGRR volunteer who will be calling.

4

Phone Interview

A volunteer will contact you to schedule your phone interview.

5

Photos

You’ll receive an email asking for specific photos of your home and fenced yard. In some cases, we will also do a home visit.

6

Approval and Finding Your Pet

Once you’re approved, you’ll receive an email and the search for your new companion begins! Our volunteers will look at dogs currently in foster care who may be a good fit for your family. We’re also happy to discuss any dogs in our care who have caught your eye.

The application screening process typically takes 3–4 weeks.
